HUNEE

Hunee approaches DJing as a living exchange with the dancefloor. Raised in Bochum (Germany) by South Korean parents and later shaped by Berlin’s club culture, he developed a way of playing that moves freely across decades and continents. His sets rarely follow a straight line. Instead, they unfold gradually, guided by instinct and close attention to the room. There is a sense of curiosity at the core of his selections. Disco, house, soul, jazz, synth-driven experiments, and lesser-known recordings from around the world can appear side by side. Transitions are less about effect than about feeling. Rhythms shift, moods deepen, and unexpected connections emerge.

Beyond the booth, Hunee has translated his vision into productions and into his Lifetones label, a platform shaped by community and shared exploration. His own tracks carry traces of funk, house heritage, and melodic warmth, without settling into one fixed identity. At Jazz Middelheim, Hunee brings a different but related perspective on improvisation. His medium is vinyl rather than an instrument, yet the principle is similar: reading the moment, shaping time, and allowing music from different traditions to speak to one another.
