Cassie Kinoshi’s seed.
- Monday Birdland
Formed in London in 2016, seed. is an eleven-piece ensemble led by composer and alto saxophonist Cassie Kinoshi. Emerging from the UK’s evolving jazz scene, the group brings together musicians with diverse backgrounds and approaches, shaping a collective sound that is both structured and open. Their music draws from jazz, contemporary composition, and a range of global influences, moving between tightly arranged passages and more fluid, improvised sections. Rhythm and texture play a central role, often building gradually into layered, expansive moments.
Rather than focusing on individual voices, seed. works as a unified ensemble, where composition and interaction are closely intertwined. The result is music that feels considered but alive, balancing precision with a sense of movement. Live, the group creates a broad and immersive sound. At Jazz Middelheim, seed. reflects a generation of artists expanding jazz through collaboration, cross-genre influence, and collective energy.
